Wanna play? by skratek Wanna play? by skratek
So i FINALLY finished something! :D I think I might be getting better at painting faces but I still can't paint hands. Sorry. :(

Here's a short story for this picture: people from the mountains of Nalwizel are known for their passion for playing a certain board game.. but this particular old guy is the mountain spirit that comes for those who don't know when to stop playing. And they have to go with him to the highest mountain top and play the game with him until they drop dead from exhaustion ;)

This one started out as a competition entry at [link] (now it's called I used a reference photo of a marble sculpture for the face from and a few lovely textures from :iconftisis-stock: and :iconenchantedgal-stock:

I also finally got my new tablet!! And it's working!!! :O

Thanks for your patience, any info, tips and suggestions are of course welcome. I'll probably update it a few times (I usually do...)

EDIT: of course. I fixed a few shadows on the hands, brightened the whole picture and added a few more figures on the table. I STILL hate the hands but oh well...

So basically you can do a face by just looking at it? Its just with most peoples digital photos it sorta likes all you have to do is put a photo onto photoshop and use filters and the smudge tool. I ask because your work is very good and I might have a commission for you. (if she chooses your work as well)

Hey, that would be great! :D
I use reference photos for the portraits, but not as a photomanipulation or a paint-over; I just use it as a guide and paint everything pretty much from scratch. But I do use it to define the main lines of the face in the first sketch..
Nice to hear you like my work :) thank you!!

This is simply remarkable! So much intricate detail and wonderful textures. I love the world-weary wisdom in his eyes. Crazy story too, lol...step away from the game! I think the hands look pretty good - the veins are nicely done. Excellent work!

Very nice piece, I especially like the traditional look. His expression came out great, too.
